Fair Usage Policy

Fair Usage Policy for SecureLocate
Effective Date: 18 February 2025

1. Purpose
This Fair Usage Policy outlines the acceptable and responsible use of the mapping services integrated into the SecureLocate Application, including but not limited to the Google Maps API. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that usage remains within the limits imposed by our third-party service providers, thereby safeguarding SecureLocate from penalties, service disruptions, or additional costs.

2. Scope
This policy applies to all users of SecureLocate, including both end users accessing the primary website and security companies using the embeddable map functionality on their own websites.

3. Acceptable Usage Limits

  • API Quotas and Limits: SecureLocate integrates with third-party mapping services that enforce specific usage quotas. Users are expected to use the mapping functionality in a manner that does not exceed these established limits.
  • Aggregate Data Collection: SecureLocate may monitor and collect aggregated, anonymised data on mapping feature usage. This data helps ensure that our usage complies with the API provider’s guidelines and supports ongoing service improvements.

4. Prohibited Conduct

  • Automated and Excessive Requests: Users must not employ automated scripts, bots, or any other methods to generate excessive or unauthorized API calls that exceed the usage quotas set by our service providers.
  • Circumvention of Usage Limits: Any attempt to bypass or circumvent the API usage restrictions is strictly prohibited. This includes practices that might artificially inflate usage metrics or otherwise compromise service integrity.
  • Unauthorized Distribution or Resale: Users are not permitted to reproduce, redistribute, or resell the mapping data or outputs generated by the SecureLocate Application without obtaining prior written consent from SecureLocate.

5. Monitoring and Enforcement

  • Review Process: SecureLocate will routinely monitor API usage data to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of our third-party mapping service providers.
  • Enforcement Measures: Should any user or embedded map implement usage practices that risk exceeding API limits or otherwise contravene this policy, SecureLocate reserves the right to temporarily or permanently restrict access to the mapping features.
  • Notification: Users or third parties found in breach of this policy will be notified and provided an opportunity to remedy the issue. Continued non-compliance may result in further enforcement actions, including suspension of access.

6. Responsibility for Embedded Maps
Security companies utilizing the embeddable map feature on their websites are responsible for ensuring that their usage complies with this Fair Usage Policy, as well as with the terms and conditions of the third-party mapping services. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may lead to the modification or removal of the embedded map functionality from their website.

7. Modifications
SecureLocate reserves the right to update or modify this Fair Usage Policy at any time, particularly in response to changes in third-party API guidelines or service requirements. Continued use of the SecureLocate Application after such modifications constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
